Flawless planning works when we think we don’t have a plan, we are resisting making a plan, or we have a flawed plan and would like to turn it into a flawless plan. Many plans “look good on paper” because they are assumption-based. Flawless plans actually work because they are question-based.
The model involves four simple steps engaging abilities we have had since childhood. It can apply to any kind of personal or shared situation, challenge, or opportunity.
Plan Mapping: Knowing our plan
Describe what you imagine feeling, doing, assuming, and wondering about in the situation you're planning
Scenario Mapping: Choosing a scenario
Name, describe, and locate possible scenarios you want to plan in the four quadrants of favorability and likelihood
Scenario Composing: Defining our best
Name what matters to you in this scenario, visualize what you would love to feel and do in it, and name the abilities you have that can support your visualization
Question Composing: Creating our future
Build the questions you will work from in your plan, describe how you will answer each, and when you will answer each.
