What Infuses Stories With Resonant Power

There are two ways that stories well told create a sense of resonance between teller and listener. At the simplest level, the story offers characters and events the listener can personally relate to. The more powerful level is when the story expresses and/or elicits emotions the listener can relate to. The emotionally based resonance, compared to the content based resonance, is more powerful because emotion is what gives stories their power to influence and connect.
