Building Community, One Small Act As A Time

In contrast to older approaches to community building, it's been my experience that it's better for a hundred people doing small things than five people doing big things.

Small acts are more affordable, engaging and inspiring. They use what we have and are more sustainable and asset based. They involve more people as contributors than consumers. They spark more possibilities in the imagination of the community.

Getting communities to think in the space of minimum viable possibilities is challenging when the cultural mythology is that we purchase our way into stronger communities instead of engaging existing assets into stronger communities. That's why the power of small often gets more traction in communities that don't have the financial resources to deny this power.
