Can organizations be democratic?

Despite global technological and sociological breakthroughs in the past decade, the vast majority of organizations remain monarchies. These breakthroughs make shared governance possible, as we've seen at the margins where leaders grow organizations to become self-organizing. The continued faith in monarchies is doubly Ironic in an era where more leaders are giving lip service to employee engagement, which in command and control monarchies is code for compliance.

Not until they learn how shared governance is possible with new technology and sociology options will monarchs feel confident and passionate in high engagement models that support thriving teams. Monarchy leaders logically mistrust empowerment and engagement when they lack these options because chaos is not a suitable alternative to monarchy. The alternatives become possible with new learning.
