First impressions

The neuroscience evidence now suggests that we should resist attachment to first impressions for several reasons.

Each of us is far more complex than the initial impressions of personality and perspective. Our narratives reach far beyond the first ones revealed. When we are present to one another, we greet each other with more curiosity than certainty. Beyond that, we are all capable of new narratives. This is liberating and empowering. It gives our connections a chance to grow and mature beyond initial expectations.

This has profound implications for how we build community across contexts.
