I daily observe people in conversations distancing from others by moving their attention to screens of any kind. I think people who do this have always distanced themselves from others in conversations, it's just more obvious now with screens.
Screens are not to blame. I do not hold technology accountability for human actions and interactions. Screens can further connect us when we share with each other what we're doing on them as we use them. And we can use them in an infinite number of ways to enhance the conversation, with all kinds of research and check-ins with others virtually. Screens can connect or disconnect. It's our choice.
