How should we measure performance?

It's curious how many organizations still measure individual and group performance with old industrial metrics like hours worked or activities performed.

I would argue that in an information economy, the metrics need to change to impact. How much impact are people making on things like innovation, customer experience and quality of life? These measures of impact might correlate to hours worked and activities performed, but it would be by coincidence because of the nature of knowledge work in an information economy.

More organizations would be wise to start defining value in currencies of impact. It is a transformational perspective.
