It's President's Day in the US, a day dedicated to celebrating country leaders over the centuries. It's also a good day to reflect on the way we still idealize top leaders in any institutions and corporations, thinking of them on scales larger than life, when in fact they are all mortal, all human, all ratios of strengths and foibles like the rest of us.
Somehow they got to the limelight. We exaggerate the importance of their superior efforts or qualities over the contextual need to keep a succession of people at the heads of organizations, municipalities and states. They are not imbued with super powers and certainly not in a connected age with super knowledge. This is certainly true of the White House residents over the years. We do well to remember this today.
