The movement toward a more thriving culture is the movement from what Kant refers to as nonage to agency.
Nonage is the experience of helplessness that comes from letting other people think for us. Its payoff is relief from responsibility. Its cost is denial of our potentials. The helplessness of self-imposed dependency is the root of all the anger, addiction, insatiability, fear, disengagement and greed we see in our world.
Agency is thinking for ourselves. It is freedom to take and share responsibility for our future. We grow thriving cultures in organizations because they are powerful forces shaping all forms of culture in our world. We engage people in a variety of social emotional technologies that create thriving cultures of freedom which makes agency possible.
