What can we expect from institutional leaders?

Every civic landscape has several genre of institutional leaders: government, education, health care, public program and foundation leaders. Many are prepared to manage professional organizations, which is a good thing.

Few are trained in leadership for civic spaces, which requires an entirely different set of practices, perspectives and principles. This is why institutional interventions struggle to move the needle on civic issues, miss vital opportunities and in many cases actually exacerbate issues. This is a call for more civically prepared leaders. It's not difficult. It just needs to happen.
