the art of storylistening

In her restorying workshop, my storytelling thought partner Julie Gabrielli observes that "listeners listen stories into their form" as they become told. The quality of story listening shapes how stories unfold as we tell them. This explains why the same story told to different people, people who listen differently, manifests somewhat differently.

One of the implications is that deep, present listening allows stories to emerge as richer narratives, for both story teller and listener.
