3 Bad Organizational Habits That Hinder Innovation

Not every organization feels motivated to innovate on the value they make possible in their markets. When teams are motivated, they don't always free to innovate. Excuses, no matter how entertaining, don't help. Teams constrict their own capacity for innovation. Here are three basic habits that do that.

Vetting by voting

When teams don't know how to organically grow new prioritized ideas, they vote. Voting precludes rich synergies of ideas and creates competition that actually limits capacity for creativity.

Working from statements

Giving teams goal statements limits the expansiveness and depth of ideas. Framing focus as questions unleashes possibilities beyond what everyone already knows.

Having a recorder

Writing stimulates more ideas than just talking or watching someone else write. A single idea recorder limits creativity.
