When we work with people who want to be happier at work, we see a variety of motivations for people who want to be happier, and another whole spectrum of motivations for their leaders who want to get them happier. Here is a short list.
- People who want to manage their intolerable levels of stress, anxiety, frustration, disconnection
- People who believe that being happier will make them more productive
- People who want to be less reactive and distracted by other people and conditions
- People who want to be happier in all or most areas of their lives
I would suggest another motivation. Becoming happier allows us to show up in conversations with a more connecting sense of presence, generosity, appreciation, humor, storytelling, learning, integrity, initiative and inclusion.
