One of my buddy Doug's favorite mantras is that simple is an asset.
Reality is that in every conversation, there are people for whom everything is complicated. They have a habit of speaking in the language of challenges, threats, competitions, problems and crisis. In my inquiries and listening, it's often obvious to me that they complicate things. Their complications are often self-inflicted.
That's why I like often interjecting into conversation, the powerful question: How could we make this simple? Any variation works just as well.
One of the outcomes of my happiness research for The Joy Of Thriving was that one of the core practices of happiness is simple. This is simplifying anything. Simple is happy. Simple is a priceless asset.
