More of my friends and colleagues are migrating from conversations about work-life balance to work-life integration. I believe it is a more intelligent and practical conversation.
In this world, I envision all of us actually respecting that many parents at work seamlessly move back and forth between work and life over their waking 16 more or less hours a day. Each of us need to do our best to keep this in mind as we collaborate.
It might be better for all of us to have a conference call in the evening rather than mid afternoon. A lunch meeting might be better for all of us than a breakfast meeting.
I'm not just talking about parents, I'm talking about everyone being supported for a seamlessness between life and work, professional and personal. It's simply and profoundly letting go of the industrial 9-5 mindset that holds little legitimacy in this context.
